Radiantly You! Session 66
{Step into Your Moxie with Alexia Vernon}

Air Date: 11/21/2018 – 8am Pacific Time
Listen Live online KKNW or TuneIn

Show Summary:

In today’s episode I’m joined by Alexia Vernon – a woman who Obama’s White House Office of Public Engagement nicknamed the “Moxie Maven.” We’re talking about how women show up, why we silence ourselves, and how to empower our voices so we can have those daring conversations, give dynamic presentations or even run for office (yes, yes, yes!). Alexia will share her new book, Step into Your Moxie, which is infused with a fresh, playful wisdom for how to shift from a fearful mindset that what you have to say could cause problems, conflict or rejection to an empowered mindset that what you have to say matters.

Show Notes:

Speaking up effectively has always been HARD for me. My heart could be singing with healing words and vibrant ideas, but in meetings or public venues my brain wants to shut down! My heart starts racing, my throat tightens and my mind gets fuzzy. I bet a lot of you can relate, right?! My guest today can relate, too!

If you’ve seen Alexia Vernon speak, well, it’s downright impressive! But she remembers a time when she walked on eggshells, framing her words just right so she’d be liked and no one would be offended. Fast forward ten years, and today Alexia is an empowerment and speaking coach on a mission to help women show up and be heard.

I’m so excited to share what I’ve been learning from this irrepressible dynamo about my relationship to my inner and outer voice and influence  – much of which is captured in her must-read book, Step into Your Moxie: Amplify Your Voice, Visibility, and Influence in the World.

Alexia will share how women who know they want to do more, say more and be more can can learn to amplify their voice, buff up their moxie and make a big, positive impact on the world. You’ll want to hear her powerful techniques for quieting the negative self-talk (the only part of you that ever needs to be silenced!) and cultivating the mindset and behaviors to walk into any room (or onto any stage!) and move people to action.

This is big – what Alexia is doing is important! In my own work with clients, I’ve seen how healing it is to find and own your voice – to activate the throat chakra so it can give healthy expression to the love in your heart and the fire in your solar plexus. When our needs, desires and contributions are not given voice, they can result in repressed emotions that are expressed as body issues and relationship problems.

We’ll also talk about the discomfort and fear of stepping into your moxie. Alexia has some great ways to condition your body to gracefully make space for and hold the sensations that arise during growth and transformation.

Wherever you are in terms of speaking your truth, I’m excited for you to hear Alexia’s wisdom on this episode of Radiantly You.

Quote from “Step into Your Moxie”:

“What I’ve learned through my work is that too many women, irrespective of our backgrounds and the privileges afforded us, are doing this super awkward Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde routine. We flip-flop between demonstrating our supposed confidence and experiencing near-paralyzing insecurity. While we might fear that if we speak up we’ll underwhelm or offend, the mental torture we put ourselves through is usually far worse than any communication coming from us.”
