Show Summary:

These days so many well-known spiritual teachers are rooted in eastern practices of mindfulness, meditation and spirituality, which I love. But there’s so much more out there when it comes to walking your soul home. This week, I’m delighted that Christine Valters Paintner is joining me to share ancient wisdom from sacred Celtic traditions, her latest book and her journey from a life in Seattle to leading pilgrimages in Ireland.

Show Notes:

I’m talking to Abbess Christine Valters Paintner who, with her husband John, left Seattle in 2012 and traveled to Ireland for a midlife adventure, where the next step of their work together unfolded. We’ll be talking about how they fell in love with Celtic monasticism and started leading pilgrimages on the wild edges of this sacred landscape, and why they created an online monastery called Abbey of the Arts. The monastery is filled with immersive, beautiful and experiential ways to connect with Celtic spirituality and monasticism.

Christine is also an author and poet, and her latest book is The Soul’s Slow Ripening: 12 Celtic Practices for Seeking the Sacred. This soul-nurturing book is full of the sort of things you find when you visit the online abbey – reflections, stories, guided activities, prayer experiences and other ways to create a sacred space in which to hear God’s invitation.

The Celtic way is a path that focuses on the environment and allows for what Christine calls the “soul’s slow ripening,” coming into the fullness of our own sweetness before we pluck the fruit. Listen to this episode to hear Christine share 12 Celtic practices for honoring the moment-by-moment invitations and the soul’s seasonal rhythms.
