Show Notes:

Rev. Bonnie Rose brings a playful joy into her spiritual teachings that’s downright contagious! I grew up on religious experiences that were somber and made me feel eternally sinful…and so I drifted away from God for quite some time. Luckily I’ve reconnected to true Spirit through teachers who helped me remember that a loving God is in me, in you and all around us. I’m always on the lookout for spiritual messengers who give me aha moments while having fun.

That’s why I’m excited and honored to share Rev. Bonnie Rose with you. Her “Sunday Messages” at the Center for Spiritual Living in Ventura, CA, are brimming with love, and in her words, a strange quirkiness and slight irreverence. From talks and events like “Give Peace a Chants” to “Downward Facing God,” she is an unconventional and very loving guide helping folks on their spiritual journey.

On the show we’ll be talking about “The Paradoxes of Freedom” – the fact that we are truly free when we become bound to values greater than the small self.

About Bonnie:

Rev. Bonnie Rose is the Senior Minister of the Ventura Center for Spiritual Living in California. Her journey to becoming a spiritual leader involved a few stops on the way – working as a registered nurse, singing at the opera and in churches, acting, and corporate training. She was ordained in 2004 and lives in California with her husband and ‘a large menagerie.’

Her spiritual influences include luminaries like Nipun Mehta, Richard Rohr and Rumi, as well as being raised in an open-minded Christian home. Through her writing, teaching and Sunday messages, Bonnie seeks to convey the wisdom and love available for all.

“For those of you who are familiar with mainstream Religious Science, my approach is somewhat non-traditional.  Many people in our denomination focus on teachings like The Secret, which are largely about manifesting what we want.  While manifestation can be a beautiful thing, I have found that Love is the divine force driving all our desires.

So we focus more on love for self and others.  We surrender to love, grace, and the divine mystery.

We don’t “affirm life’s imperfections away.”

We love even the darkest parts of ourselves.  We aspire to love everything.

And if we can’t love something, we love the part of us that can’t love it.

For the action of love is more important than the object of love.”
